You will need:
Glue gun or glue melting pot
Fine gauge craft/jewelry wire (I prefer 28 gauge) Bamboo Skewers
Wire cutters to cut craft wire
Nippers (something to trim wood skewer to appropriate size)
After the china painting/firings are finished, cut a 6 inch piece of wire. Slide it thru the hole (in some cases you will have two holes pierced in the top of the legs, slide in one hole and out the other). Slide/position legs so that are about in the middle of the length of wire. Holding legs firmly in one hand, grip both ends of wire nearest the leg, and begin to twist the wire firmly as shown in photo
Place skewer between two wires
Wrap wires firmly around skewer several times.
Look inside the ornament to see where the skewer can rest. It needs to be on two parallel ledges. Normally it's at the arms, but sometimes I have to go all the way to the head. On the outside of the ornament, hold the skewer against the area the it will be placed so that you can determine both the length of the wire needed and the width of the skewer.
Decide how much of the feet/legs you wish to be seen and make the necessary adjustments to the wire by wrapping or unwrapping it from the skewer. Trim away excess wire.
Skewer should be the cut the length of the widest point (this photo shows that the skewer is a tad too large and will need to be trimmed one more time). You can size/cut the skewer before you wrap the wire or after.
Holding by the feet, slide skewer into area and make sure it rests firmly on both "ledges".
Using a heated glue gun, hold the ornament upside down, with your thumb pressing on the feet (to keep them out of the way of the glue gun AND to keep the skewer firmly on the "ledges").
Carefully drip glue into areas the skewer rests. If you are using a melting pot, dip both ends into the glue and quickly insert the skewer. Continue to hold the ornament upside down, with your thumb on the feet, for a few seconds until the hot glue starts to cool down.
This photo shows the skewer resides on elbow ledges
This photo (barely) shows the skewer resides all the way up inside the head. Looking at the actual ornament you can see the "ledges" were not parallel. There wasn't a "ledge" large enough to support the skewer so the next best solution was going up inside the head. If you use Ribbon to string the ornament (rather than an ornament cap) make sure you secure the ribbon before you glue in the skewer/feet. It will make things much simpler.. been there done that!
