Ladies, I cancelled the seminar with Frank. We simply were not able to reach amicable terms regarding his preferred teaching method.

History: Back in February when Adele was here, we did something different class-wise. Each person brought her own piece of china in and Adele was to help each of us do our own designs. No two people did the same thing, as we all have different interests and tastes. The bottom line is that most of us sit there twiddling our thumbs doing nothing, except for 2 or 3 who dominated Adele's time! I was pissed big time!

To prevent this from happening again I decided that I would implement the number system for my studio (or something systematic - start on the left and work your way all around the room doing each participant in line) so that every one is giving equal time.

This issue was brought up at our club meeting last week. Much to my surprise, every club member in the room agreed that until 2 years ago, we used the numbering system. A good teacher's talent is in no way restricted by systematic critiquing. And that its nothing more than Defiance seeping thru from teachers who think they are better than anyone else.

It is not to anyone’s benefit to refrain the teacher from teaching in a manor that prohibits their talent, nor is it beneficial to the slower student(s) who do not get equal time with the teacher. Obviously the faster painter does not need to be critiqued as much as the slower/new comers. One wonders, is it fair to allow the faster students to have more critiquing time - should it not be the other way around? What's wrong with this picture?

We have a few individiuals in our group who dominated Adeles time/critiquing, they actually let the her paint their piece, plus brought in another half dozen pieces for her to paint, while the rest of us sit there with our class pieces untouched. This was totally out of control this year!

Anyhow I sent Frank an email and told him that I used a systmatic system in my studio. This was his reply..snip...I'm having problems with your request about using the numbering system....This doesn't work for me.....because some painters paint faster and some slower, a person may not be ready for help when their number is called. The painters are all adults and I feel they should act as such and moniter the number of times they come for help, if I feel someone is abusing my system I will respond accordingly. I've talked with several of my teacher friends and they all feel the same as I do, a teacher should be able to conduct their seminars in the manner that is comfortable for them....snip

Seems to me like Frank has forgotten who is paying who! I have already taking a class from him and I set there twiddling my thumbs while he painted non-class pieces (for addition fees) during the class. This is the reason I told him that we used the numbering system in my studio. And thus the reason I will not pursue with his seminar. Been there, done that!
I am NOT about to let some one tell me how things will be run in my home. I'm looking out for all of us! Sure there are faster painters, and sure they can bring extra pieces to paint to keep them occupied, but I draw the line when those extra pieces make it to the teacher's work station to be critiqued by the teacher while I am sitting there waiting for the teacher to call me up. With Adele's last seminar here -- 4 days. I got a total of 12 minutes with her. 12 frigging minutes! That will NEVER happen again.
Now you know the whole story. Its my way or the high way... hehehe, ain't I a bitch!
