Adele Powell Holt Seminar April 13, 14, 15 & 16, 2010
- No Refunds: If you can not participate, it will be up to you to find a replacement and "settle up $" with that person. Brevard Porcelain Artists Club is not involved in this seminar, and will not "foot" any financial short comings.
- Lunch - Local attendees
can brown bag or make a modest donation for home cooked hot lunches being prepared daily: casseroles, salads, rolls, tea. Please email me and let me know if you plan to eat the hot lunch(s) -- I need to know at least a week before the seminar to plan my grocery shopping. If you feel you need a break, there is a McDonalds one block from my home. We will take about 45 minutes for lunch - unless Adele has other plans. There are an abundance of restaurants 2 miles from my home, but I don't believe our lunch time will allow this indulgence.
Out-of-towners staying overnight with me for dinner we will warm up the left overs from lunch. Bring your pillow, bed sheeting and bath towels. Bedding is Lazy Boy Queen size pull out sofas (fairly new). My doll making friends who have slept on them, say they were very comfy.
If you prefer to stay at a nearby hotel, the Suburban Extended Stay is offering me rooms for $39/night plus tax. This is where Adele is lodging. Phone: (321) 768-9777
I will provide coffee, ice tea and snacks. If you drink Decaf coffee, let me know, otherwise it will not be available. If you prefer bottled water or colas, you will be responsible for providing it. Make sure you write your name on your bottle/can.
There is no charge for the Ripped Egg workshop scheduled for Saturday, March 27th. 1-3pm. All you need to do is bring an apron, it can get messy! If you have a timer bring it with you. The molds are new, if you wish to purchase the egg mold it will be available for $25, the Egg Stand mold is also available for $15.
Added 2/4/10 - 50% Discount Porcelain: Participants will have the opportunity to purchase additional porcelain:
Glazed Ornaments normally $8 ea; will be $4 ea.
Glazed Egg stands normally $8 ea; will be $4 ea.
Glazed Ripped Eggs normally $12.50 ea. will be $6 ea
Glazed Mini Eggs & Bisque mini-figurines normally $3 ea will be $1.
The sales from the porcelain will off-set my out-of-pocket expenses. This offer will not be available after the seminar.
Absolutely NOTHING will be placed on the floor. There are shelves for you to place your handbag and painting supplies. Adele was in an auto accident a few years ago that resulted in severe injuries to her feet, ankles and legs. The last thing I want to happen is for her (or you) to trip or stumble over something.
Painting: When getting up from the table, please DO NOT PUSH THE TABLE to slide your chair back, remember others are trying to paint. Place your hands under your chair and move the chair OR let the others know you are getting up so that they can lift their paint brush.
The only porcelain allowed in class is what I have provided. This will ensure everyone has equal critiquing time with Adele. Faster painters will be able to work on the extra ornament, egg and minis while we slower painters work on our pieces.
Night Time activities (This is designed for the folks who are not concerned about getting home before dark) Everyone is welcomed to participate. After dinner (and Adele leaves) We will move one of the tables to the other side of the room and let the fun begin! Evening #1 -We will make the glass components for a fused glass bracelet and earrings (kiln fire and anneal), Evening #2 - we will make pure Silver Toggles to go with the bracelet (If you have Clay left over, you can make a pendant with dichroic glass. Silver clay must be kiln fired). Evening #3 - assemble the bracelets and earrings. Depending on how soon we end, during one of the sessions above, you will also learn to make french wire earring hooks from pure silver wire. Participants are to provide their own Silver Clay. Sticker Shock ... Silver Clay costs about $45 a pat, but you can make at least two toggles from it or a toggle and a pendant. This link will take you to a fairly reasonable vendor; their clay costs about $34 plus postage: ArtClay Silver 650
This is a wonderful opportunity for you to discover other options you can use your kiln for. And its free (except for your purchase of silver). Think of what color you want your primary glass to be, bring your silver clay, and a deck of cards, if you have them. I will provide the rest (no charge).
Payment: If you have not done so already, please bring or send a check payable to me in the amount of $140 no later than March 27th; Diane Guinn 1508 Birch St. Melbourne, FL 32935
The $140 fee covers Adele's class fee ($300/day), 5 nights lodging at Suburban Extended Stay, and mileage/lodging back to North Carolina (total $1600). Your "Class" porcelain is free, provided by me. Your paints and mediums are included in Adele's fee (except for Gold, which is your responsibility). CLASS PROJECT COLOR COPIES ARE $1 Ea. (added 3/9/10 10:41am) There will be 11 of us, including Trish Kern, who will be both my helper and guest. She will be working the kitchen and taking care of Adele's needs, overseeing the kiln firings, etc. Being incredibly talented, Trish can easily keep up with the class even with all the disruptions, where as I can not. Once my thought process is disrupted, I'm screwed! I have GOT to learn how to paint those tiny little roses. Click here to return to the main page
